چکیده

The topic of this paper1 is the analysis of the semantics of the particular spatial relations 'along' and 'past' which are used to characterize the path of moving objects. The German dialogue system CITYTOUR, which answers questions about the spatial relations of objects in a scene, is presented by means of a simple dialogue example. The representational prerequisites of the static and the dynamic objects, required for computational analysis are presented. Two concrete predicate functions testing whether a dynamic object moves along or moves past a static object are described in detail. This paper appeared in: Proc. of the 7th ECAI, volume 2, pp. 1–8, Brighton, UK, 1986. 1This report describes work done in the project VITRA, which is part of the SFB 314 Research Program of the Science Foundation (DFG) on AI and Knowledge-Based Systems.

Extending the Qualitative Trajectory Calculus Based on the Concept of Accessibility of Moving Objects in the Paths

Qualitative spatial representation and reasoning are among the important capabilities in intelligent geospatial information system development. Although a large contribution to the study of moving objects has been attributed to the quantitative use and analysis of data, such calculations are ineffective when there is little inaccurate data on position and geometry or when explicitly explaining ...

The Extraction of Trajectories from Real Texts Based on Linear Classification

Text-to-scene conversion systems need to share the spatial descriptions between natural language and the 3D scene. Such applications are the ideal candidates for the extraction of spatial relations from free texts, in which the extraction to trajectories that are focus objects in spatial descriptions is an essential problem. We present an analysis of how the space relations are described in Chi...

Detecting and Tracking Moving Objects in Video from an Airborne Observer

We address the detection and tracking of moving objects in a video stream obtained from a moving airborne platform. The approach is based on two modules; first compensates the image flow induced by the motion of observation platform to detect moving objects and track these regions using a dynamic template derived from their temporal coherence. A graph representation of these objects allows us t...

How to Handle Incomplete Knowledge Concerning Moving Objects

In this paper, we present a way of how to handle incomplete knowledge concerning moving objects. Our approach is based on the basic Qualitative Trajectory Calculus (QTCB), which is a calculus for handling interactions between moving point objects (MPO’s). Without elaborating on the domain of linguistics, we show that QTC B B is well-fitted to represent spatiotemporal natural language. Illustrat...

Efficient Higher-Order Shear Deformation Theories for Instability Analysis of Plates Carrying a Mass Moving on an Elliptical Path

The dynamic performance of structures under traveling loads should be exactly analyzed to have a safe and reasonable structural design. Different higher-order shear deformation theories are proposed in this paper to analyze the dynamic stability of thick elastic plates carrying a moving mass. The displacement fields of different theories are chosen based upon variations along the thickness as c...
